ABOUT THE ARTIST

Art has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.

Growing up in Berlin, I began drawing and painting as a child.

My earliest works were primarily figurative and realistic.

Over the years, I explored different techniques, materials and forms of expression, until my work increasingly moved beyond representation and towards abstraction.

A particularly formative period in my artistic development began during my time in competitive sport. Through horse riding, I spent a great deal of time in the region around Neustadt (Dosse), which also brought me to Vichel.

The studio at the time was on the grounds of a castle, in a room that was still only half finished.

That setting has stayed deeply etched in my memory.

The distinctive energy of the place, its old structures, the unfinished room and the freedom to work there shaped my understanding of how strongly surroundings and atmosphere can influence the creative process.

There, I also met an artist whose personality and work left a lasting impression on me.

He gave me my first gold leaf.

What began as a gift and an experiment developed into a love for this material that continues to this day. It is not only its preciousness that fascinates me. Above all, it is the way gold leaf responds to its surroundings: how it catches the light, comes to the fore from different perspectives, changes in intensity and can give a work a different effect time and again.

Today, this fascination with light, reflection and material qualities is evident not only in the gold leaf, but also in my deliberate use of metallic paints and reflective pigments.

Since around 2016/17, I have been deeply engaged in my own artistic practice and in developing a personal visual language. At the same time, my professional path took me further into visual design: I trained as a tattoo artist in 2023, working in an art form in which line, proportion, contrast and composition demand particular precision.

The art of tattooing has had a lasting influence on my approach to design. It taught me to make deliberate decisions, to place planes in relation to one another and not to leave composition to chance. This precision remains an important part of my abstract work today.

Over time, it also became increasingly important to me to consider a work of art in relation to its surroundings. I am interested in spaces and interiors, in materials, colour palettes, proportions and the way individual elements interact.

Art can completely transform a space — and, at the same time, a work of art can take on an entirely new effect through the space, the light and its surroundings.

This interplay is now a central part of my practice.
My works emerge intuitively and with control. Planes, lines, structures, overlays and deliberate breaks are placed in relation to one another until a composition emerges that holds tension while remaining coherent as a whole.

For me, art does not always have to fulfil the same role.
One work may become the focal point of a space and play a defining role in its atmosphere.
Another may deliberately take a quieter role, echoing existing materials and colours and becoming part of an interior that already has a strong presence.
What matters to me is that a work evokes a response.

Today, I live and work in Hamburg. Under Why Jucyy, I create abstract originals and individual commissioned works for both private and commercial spaces.
I combine my own artistic signature with a strong understanding of composition, material, light and the effect of art within a space.

Each work remains one of a kind.

It should do more than suit a space.

It should change something within it.
